NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE
Unanimously considered to be an authority on the Italian repertoire, Nello Santi is closely linked to Nabucco, of which he is one of the most accredited interpreters. The revival of the staging by Daniele Abbado sees the role of Abigaille played by Anna Pirozzi, in her second Verdi title at La Scala after I due Foscari, and by Martina Serafin, while the leading role is once again played by Leo Nucci. Stefano La Colla returns as Ismaele, after appearing as Calaf in the Turandot that opened the six-month Expo season, conducted by Riccardo Chailly; and Mikhail Petrenko, one of the most interesting bass voices of recent years, makes his La Scala debut in the role of Zaccaria.
