“The magic flute is a great allegory on the forces which humanity contends for”: with these words, the director Damiano Michieletto introduces this new staging, set in a school which opens itself to a physical journey of discovery and individual awareness. In this surreal allegory, “Tamino and Pamina, accompanied by the Papageno, who is illiterate but who understands the language of animals, live the conflict between religious and secular institutions (summed up in the conflict between the Queen of the Night and Sarastro) and open up to an individual discovery of affection and sexuality, of maturity seen as independence from their fathers”.
